The All-New 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera

2012 Porsche 911 Carrera

At 48, the Porsche 911 Carrera is younger than ever. The completely redesigned seventh-generation sports car icon is stepping into the limelight with its sleek and stretched silhouette, exciting contours and precisely designed features. Yet from every angle it is unmistakably a 911, holding true to the Porsche 911 Carrera ‘evolution, not revolution’ design philosophy.

The 100 mm or 3.9 inch longer wheelbase and reduced overall height underpin the fresh, athletic yet elegant appearance. When viewed from the front, the eye is drawn to the 911’s trademark wide-arched fenders, emphasizing the wider front track. The side mirrors are now mounted on the upper edge of the door, which also helps highlight the new design line and gives the visual impression of width.

2012 Porsche 911 Carrera

The new lightweight body is an aluminum-steel composite construction and contributes greatly to the 45 kg or about 100 lbs weight reduction when compared to the previous 911 body. When combined with the greater structural rigidity and optimized aerodynamics – including a wider, variably extending rear spoiler – the new 911 Carrera’s front and rear lift has been reduced to near zero while retaining the Cd value of 0.29.

To complement the modern exterior design, Porsche designers created an interior reminiscent of the Carrera GT. The driver is now even more closely integrated within the cockpit thanks to the rising center console and high-mounted shift lever or gear selector located close to the steering wheel. As with the exterior, classic Porsche elements abound inside. Present is the instrument cluster with five round gauges – one of them a high resolution multifunction screen, and of course the central tachometer and the ignition lock to the left of the steering wheel.

Setting the standard in its class, as it has for generations, the new 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S raise the performance and efficiency bar yet another notch. All versions get by with significantly less than 10 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (official U.S. EPA fuel mileage estimates are TBD) and fuel consumption and emissions are up to 16 percent lower in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) when compared with the predecessor. This is achieved through systems such as the Automatic Start Stop function, engine and transmission thermal management, electrical system recuperation, the world’s first seven-speed manual transmission and – in conjunction with the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) – the ability to ‘sail’ or coast. The new electro-mechanical power steering offers not only Porsche’s typical precision and feedback but also helps increase efficiency and reduce fuel-consumption.

2012 Porsche 911 Carrera

For example, the 911 Carrera with the new 350 hp, 3.4-liter boxer engine and optional PDK consumes 8.2 l/100 km based on the NEDC – 1.6 l/100 km less than its predecessor.

The 911 Carrera S with its 400 hp, 3.8-liter boxer engine – 15 hp more than before – achieves 8.7 l/100 km in the NEDC when paired with the optional PDK transmission. This represents a fuel consumption decrease of 14 percent or 1.5 l/100 km.

At the same time there are performance improvements in both models. The 911 Carrera S with PDK accelerates from 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds. Using the Launch Control function of the optional Sport Chrono Package cuts that to 3.9 seconds. The 911 Carrera with PDK needs only 4.4 seconds to sprint from a standing start to 60 mph (4.2 seconds when using the optional Sport Chrono Package’s Launch Control function). Top-track speed for the 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera is 188 mph and 179 mph, respectively.

The new 911 offers both better longitudinal dynamics and unprecedented top performance in terms of transverse dynamics. In addition to the longer wheelbase, the greater agility, precision and driving stability are based, among other things, on the wider front track, the new rear axle and new electro-mechanical power steering. Depending on the model, there are other standard or optional active control systems available that can help further enhance the overall driving dynamics. That is especially true for the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) active roll stabilization system, available for the first time on the 911 Carrera S. The system helps reduce lateral roll when cornering and helps keep the tires in the optimal position relative to the road surface.

The first new 911 models will arrive in U.S. dealerships beginning in February of 2012. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Greater Los Angeles Begins 7th Annual Holiday Campaign "Season of Wishes®"

7th Annual Season Of Wishes

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles officially unveiled its 2011 Season of Wishes holiday campaign and held its first "Weekly Wish Night" on Tuesday, November 22 at 6 p.m. at The Grove in Los Angeles. The campaign, an annual holiday series full of heartwarming stories of local wish children, featured six public nights of magical wish-granting over a five-week period at either The Grove or The Americana at Brand in Glendale. A special Wednesday "wish night" capped Season of Wishes on December 21 at The Grove.

The Foundation also introduced this year's campaign representative, 4-year-old Daniel Ordaz, whose wish to have a superhero play set was granted during last year's Season of Wishes. For this year's campaign, Daniel's smiling face is featured on all of the 2011 campaign marketing materials.

"Season of Wishes began in Los Angeles in 2005 and has grown into a program celebrated around the country by all 62 Make-A-Wish® chapters," said Breena Gold, President and CEO of the Greater Los Angeles chapter. "We rely greatly on our generous donors and corporate sponsors to help us reach our goal of raising awareness and critical funding needed so we can continue to grant 400 wishes a year. We encourage everyone to come and experience a wish celebration for themselves and see the joy that these events bring not only to the children and their families, but to everyone involved. Our wish kids will inspire you with their determination and the imagination of their wishes."

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is proud to acknowledge its 2011 Season of Wishes campaign partners, including: Macy's, City National Bank, King's Hawaiian Bakery, McGuireWoods LLP, Rusnak Auto Group, Frigo Cheese Heads, The Cheesecake Factory, The Grove, The Americana at Brand, Caruso Affiliated, Los Angeles Kings, KTTV-TV (Fox 11 LA), KOST 103.5 FM, Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, Color Me Mine, Yummy Cupcakes and the Outlook Newspapers.

In conjunction with Season of Wishes, the Greater Los Angeles chapter held a "red carpet" extravaganza -- "Uncork a Wish" Wine Tasting and Auction -- hosted by EXTRA's Mario Lopez, on December 2 at The Beverly Hilton. Proceeds from this event benefited our wish children and helped the Foundation make dreams come true for more and more boys and girls.

Dear Mr. Rusnak,

I rarely, if ever, write fan letters but this week I am moved to do so. Paul, I just leased another Mercedes from Rusnak and I must tell you I cannot recall ever having been treated with such kindness and happiness and respect. Everyone on the lot greeted me, regardless of whether or not I was there to see them. And they all greeted me by name! I don't know where else that happens, unless you're checking into a 10 star hotel!

I was not even out of the old car when William Ho was standing beside me! "Hello Miss Worby, welcome back to Rusnak, we are delighted to see you! Congratulations on your new orchestra!"

I was speechless.

Then Brian, of course, who had already spent hours on the telephone with me and with my business manager sorting out the new lease, with everything all prepared, every detail already tended to, the new car waiting. All hugs and happiness. By now he is like family.

Then Perry Dong joyously giving me thousands of documents to sign and asking about the new orchestra and explaining what a great car I was leasing.

Then, of course, Vatche, sweetly opening doors and trunks and transferring belongings and showing me the ins and outs and asking about the new orchestra.

Truthfully there were at least 3 other people working, whom I didn't know, who stopped me to say how thrilled they were to see me again and how happy they were about MUSE/IQUE!

Paul, I know that you have high expectations. And you know that I join you in that realm of "perfection" being the only way to do business and succeed! Honestly, Paul, Rusnak Mercedes-Benz has just set a standard which I can only dream of MUSE/IQUE ever being able to reach.

MUSE/IQUE

Thank you for your life long support and love,

Rachael Worby

Subject: 2011 Hyundai Hope on Wheels Program

One of the proudest accomplishments of being a Hyundai and its dealers is our joint commitment to pediatric cancer research, through our non-profit foundation called Hyundai Hope on Wheels. While we have accomplished many milestones this year, there are few higher results than those coming from the important work of pediatric cancer research. This letter will recap a few of our accomplishments.

As you know, the Hyundai Hope on Wheels program began in 1998 by a group dedicated Hyundai dealers in the New England area. What started more than 13 years ago as a local effort, has grown in to a nationwide 501c3 non-profit Foundation. Though Hope on Wheels grew up a bit over the years, with a more structured approached, what hasn't changed is the sincere goal of the Hyundai dealers and company to help kids fight cancer.

A few facts about pediatric cancer:

  1. Every 36 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer; 15,000 new case per year.
  2. Although 80% of pediatric cancers are cured, 1 in 5 won't survive.
  3. Pediatric cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease in US children.
  4. Despite survival rates, 3 in 5 kids will suffer long term side effects from the treatment.
  5. There has been only one new drug developed especially for pediatric cancer in the last 30 years.

The above facts are sobering and real. It reminds us of why we all work so hard for this issue. And, importantly, reminds us why we won't stop until we find a cure.

We are very proud of the US Hyundai dealer body and company partnership, which has worked very hard together to raise research funds to help address this important health policy issue. 2011 was our biggest and best year ever, and here are just a few highlights:

  • Marked our 13th consecutive year of supporting pediatric cancer research. Hope on Wheels is the largest and most long standing dealer-company effort in Hyundai; possibly the entire auto industry.
  • Awarded a total of $43.0 million in research grants since 1998. We are told by many that we may be the largest private donor to pediatric cancer research, outside the health care industry.
  • Awarded $20.1 million, with 122 separate grants, presented in 36 states, in 2011 alone.
  • Included dealer contributions to HOW of $14 per car in the invoice price, with HMA match support.
  • Featured Brianna Commerford, who served in her 2nd and final year as national youth ambassador and brought an amazing voice to our cause.
  • Continued support of a volunteer Medical Advisory Review Committee, with nine leading pediatric oncologist across the US, providing guidance on program direction and grant selections.
  • Conducted the 2nd annual September National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Campaign.
  • Donated $10 million to CHOC Children's hospital for the creation of the Hyundai Cancer Institute, which is pursuing a research project in genomics to understand the DNA of kids with cancer.
  • Addressed the US House of Representative Pediatric Cancer Health Care Caucus.
  • Hosted a first ever 5k race/walk, with over 1,000 participants.
  • Drove a Hyundai Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle cross country for pediatric cancer awareness.
  • Conducted the 2nd annual in dealership handprint fundraising program.
  • Created over 100 million unpaid media impressions and hundreds of thousands of social media fans/twitter followers and on-line mentions.
  • Was featured in more than 200 broadcast, print and online media stories about the campaign.
  • And much more...

With the outstanding leadership of the Hyundai Hope on Wheels dealer board of directors, in partnership with Hyundai, we can proudly report that nearly 90 cents per dollar of all contributions were awarded directly to research. That is far better than typical non-profit operating overhead costs that account for 25-30% of dollars raised.

As is the Hyundai way, we approach the Hope on Wheels project with dedication and humility, for we understand we are a small part of a much larger issue, which so many are working hard to solve. These are real life and death issues that sadly far too many American children have to face every day. But, we are proud to report that everything we hear from the doctor committee, hospital grant recipients, and experts in the field, is that the Hyundai Hope on Wheels program is making an impact. In the near future, you will be receiving a commemorative coffee table book and DVD, which you can proudly show your customers and employees on the great work we have done together. You may also go to our website and see the research results of past grant awardees.

We are far from being done with our work. Indeed, we are well underway with planning the 2012 program, which may be an even bigger year than the last. Just like the success with other Hyundai efforts in recent years, we are thrilled with the support and dedication of each and every Hyundai dealer to this cause. Thank you, for being a fighter for kids and families, who need us most. You and your teams are what this franchise is really all about.

As you wrap up your own year-end financials, we just wanted to remind you that you can make a cash donation to Hyundai Hope on Wheels, a qualified, 501c3 non-profit organizations. These donations may be fully tax deductible. And you can be confident that your gifts will go for the purpose intended. To make your tax deductible donation to Hope on Wheels, please mail a check payable to Hyundai Hope on Wheels, 3200 Park Center Drive, 14th Floor, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. You may also do so on line via credit card at www.HyundaiHopeOnWheels.org, and click donate now button. Any amount you give is appreciated, and will be included in the 2012 grant program.

Again, thank you so much for all you do for Hope On Wheels. We are proud of the amount of money we have raised together, but we also know there is much more work still needed. Our goal is simple: that one day no kid will have to hear the words, you have cancer. And that will truly be a day to celebrate.

Warmest regards,

Hyundai Hope on Wheels

Oscar Leeser, Dave Zuchowski Chairman, Hyundai Hope on Wheels Board of Directors Executive Vice President, Sales Dealer, Hyundai of El Paso Hyundai Motor America
