Is there any additional cost for putting nitrogen in the tires of a new or pre-owned vehicle from Rusnak?
No. Nitrogen-filled tires are available at no additional cost on any new or certified pre-owned vehicle.
Can I put nitrogen in my current tires or do I need to buy new ones?
You can put nitrogen in any tire. You do not need new tires. We simply remove the compressed air currently in your tires and replace it with nitrogen. It's that easy.
How does nitrogen improve mileage, performance, safety and the life of the tire?
Nitrogen molecules are larger than oxygen molecules. So they don't seep through the tire walls as quickly. That means your tires stay fully inflated for significantly longer. What's more, nitrogen has a very low concentration of moisture. That lowers condensation and rim corrosion, and will allow tires to run cooler - all which provide a safer ride.
Will I really improve mileage and save money by switching to nitrogen-filled tires?
Yes. The average driver can save about 5% in fuel costs, increase the life of their tire by 25% and decrease the chance of blowout by 50%. The US Department of Transportation estimates that Americans waste 5.4 million gallons of gas every day due to under inflation. If everyone in America switched to nitrogen in our tires, we'd save several billion gallons of gas per year! Use the Savings Calculator to determine what you'd save.
Will I void my manufacturer or tire warranty by filling my tires with nitrogen?
No. Most major tire manufacturers including Continental, Michelin, Goodyear, Dunlop, BF Goodrich, and Bridgestone support nitrogen technology to improve the life and performance of their tires. In fact, Ford Motor Cars has released a study praising the effects of Nitrogen.
Is filling your tires with pure nitrogen dangerous in any way?
No. It's an inert gas and completely safe. That's why racecar drivers, NASA, the FAA, the US Military and every major tire manufacturer approve of nitrogen-filled tires.
Is it actually dangerous to drive on under inflated tires?
Yes. According the AAA, 90% of all tire failures are caused by under inflation. It has been estimated that by filling your tires with nitrogen, one reduces the risk of tire blowout by 50%.
Once I fill my tires with Nitrogen, can I later refill them with regular air? Can I mix the two?
Yes. You can put regular air back into your tires in the future. If you are in a situation where you need to add air to your tires and Nitrogen is not available, you can add regular compressed air. However you should make it a point to refill your tires with pure nitrogen so that they do not become unbalanced - as those with regular compressed air will deflate at a faster rate than those with pure nitrogen.
How often should I refill my tires with regular compressed air versus Nitrogen?
Because compressed air can leak about 1-4 PSI per month, auto manufacturers, tire manufacturers and the US Government all recommend that your tires be checked once every month. With nitrogen, your tires will remain inflated for four to six months, and possibly even longer.
